Feature; A VISION OF HOPE, PRECISION AND DETERMINATION - By Allen Ukwuru

We hope you enjoy this piece inspired by the many problems faced by Nigerians (and African alike) by a Lawyer, social influencer and Ex Mr Unverse Nigeria winner Mr Allen Ukwuru.

Today, I want to speak to the Nigerian youths, it seems we are too laid back with respect to the affairs of this country, I know it is because we are distracted by our daily struggles to make ends meet and largely by the modern technological artefacts. A good number of us; spend a huge amount of time on social media(s), while losing a sense of the things that truly matter to us.
What we must understand is that piloting the affairs of this country has nothing to do with age. In fact, leadership has nothing to do with age; but has everything to do with understanding the issues that this country has and making informed and reasoned decisions without fear or favour. Not to offending any religious sensibility; let me allude to the likes of Joseph, David etc in the Bible, how old were they before becoming renowned leaders.

The fact is, the leaders we have in this country do not reflect our time and clime. The people we allow to lead us possess minds that don't revolve around this era, for instance, the benefit of the internet and associated technologies while growing up and this is why their decision making will always be limited to their current knowledge.
As youths in this country, we constitute 65% of the country's population. Do you know what it means to have 65% of a company's shares? Politics is a game of number and we have the number as-well-as the physical strength and to me, I don't think we have leveraged on our strength at all.
Our youths are so disassociated with the political arena leaving the things that matter to the decision of our old leaders. Since we were young, this same name, same faces have ruled our political arena and until now what good has it done to us? Look at where we are in this country, where is our direction? But every day we hear stories of hope and of how things will "change" soon, soon, and politicians are sharing money every day quietly and life is going by. If you think anybody is saving the recovered sums of money for you, you better think again. Trust me these politicians know what they are doing and its all for their own gain because those who are supposed to ask the questions are not interested and so someone who is carrying an umbrella today decides to become progressive tomorrow all for the gain. We should open our eyes and see that they live good lives enjoy the beautiful things of life quietly and the masses cannot afford basic necessities of life. Until now this country cannot boast of achieving power stability in a single state, and we all are just looking? we are handicapped? choi!
What are we doing as youths to salvage this country? The truth is we don't have to turn 60 years of age before we get involved in the affairs of this country. Our strength is our number not how much is in our bank accounts. Our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts should herald our voices. We can ground this country if we want to, as it is not the cash you have that goes to the polls to vote but natural persons, which means that we have the power to turn things around.
My point is; let us put a pedal on gerontocracy let our old politicians take a back seat and play an advisory role and the young and vibrant lead us. We are tired of the trial and error. Its time for a young president in this country, thanks to Canadians and the French who are the trailblazers as the tides are changing fast and we the youths of this country should engineer the change we want to see, by nominating some credible Nigerian youths who are doing well that we can trust to deliver the dividends of democracy to us and vote them into office at the next general elections, to fill up political positions. Our old politicians have failed us in this country and we can not afford to fail ourselves and our children because your children will ask you "and what did you do"? Our usual habit is to complain and complain about the poor state of things and do nothing because we think there is nothing we can do. Let us choose young people from our communities who are selfless and have proven their capacity overtime to run for office. Let us use our social media platforms to make our voices heard by saying no to gerontocracy.
This message is intended to provoke every Nigerian youth if you cannot find a job as a graduate if you cannot afford house rent, school fees, food, power etc. I think we deserve better than what we get in this country considering available resources, just look at what Libyans enjoy from the government. So if we decide to settle for less from here onwards, it is totally our own choice, I have said my own.
I hope this message can inspire some young minds to make a bold move for this country, for our states and local governments, so that we can see true "change". Nigerians let us not just talk, as usual, let us support young people in government. In view of the elections, this is the right time to act; this is our time.
Share until it inspires someone. ....signed Allen Ukwuru Esq....
